Vogue May 1968 “Look Lively – American Fashion is Out to Play” Shot by Irving Penn

Usually when I get a vintage fashion magazine, I scan my favorite photos from multiple sections of the magazine. But with this May 1968 issue of Vogue, there was this one huge spread that I loved EVERY single page of – and it was like 29 pages. So instead of doing one post with that PLUS every other photo I liked, I’m dedicating this post to JUST that one spread and I’ll save the rest for later.

This spread was shot by the iconic Irving Penn, and is titled “Look Lively – American Fashion is Out to Play.” On top of killer outfits and photography, the hairstyles are incredible! I love that we’re actually in May 2019 right now. So we can look at this and think about this time of year exactly 51 years ago! Enjoy!

Which look do you love? I can’t decide between the last image with the giant sunglasses, white shift and knee socks or the blue skirted swimsuit with the bananas hair OR the high waisted black bikini with the belly chain. Can they just all be my favorite!?
