My Vintage Book Collection: The Joy of Sex: A Gourmet Guide to Love Making by Alex Comfort

I love a good vintage book on my shelf, so I’m always picking them up at estate sales and thrift stores. For some reason, I’m really interested in vintage books on sexuality. I’m fascinated to see how conversations about sex have changed over the years. Plus, I’m basically a child and a lot of times they’re funny – especially when they have pictures. Either way, they’re great conversation starters.

The Joy of Sex: A Gourmet Guide to Love Making was published in 1972. The realistic drawings make this book one of my favorites on the subject, and the man reminds me of the dad on Family Ties. Not for young eyes however. Here are some of the tamer illustrations:

I enjoy the way that Alex Comfort paralleled sex to gourmet food!  Quite clever! I mean, who doesn’t like food?

(Sidetone: As I flip through the pages, I’ve decided i was a little generous in comparing this man to Steven Keaton. Just saying.)

Anyways, this book covers everything from what clothes are to have sex on trains. No stone is left unturned here, people! It’s definitely a “must-have” for your vintage sexuality book collection.
